Do you live in Georgia? Do you have a television?

Because I do, and I know what I'm watching tonight!

With the 75th anniversary of Gone With the Wind right around the corner, you may notice a lot of programs around town and on television about Georgia's beloved local legend. Tonight, Georgia Public Broadcasting will air the world premiere of their biography documentary Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel. I borrowed a copy of the DVD from our editor here at Peachtree a week ago -- it was so good that I'm tuning in to watch it again!

The documentary features our very own Marianne Walker, author of Margaret Mitchell and John Marsh: The Love Story Behind Gone With the Wind. It airs tonight, Thursday, June 30, at 8 p.m. on GPB! They did a great job of it, so you all should definitely watch with me! After all, Rhett said it himself: "Take a good look my dear. It's an historic moment you can tell your grandchildren about."

 PS - A new giveaway!!

This one is easy, peasy. Write me on Twitter (@PeachtreePub) or comment here with something you learned about Margaret Mitchell or your favorite line from Gone With the Wind! I'll pick a winner at random to receive a copy of Marianne's great book!

If you don't live in Georgia or you don't have a television, keep an eye on the GPB website for great info about Mitchell and snippets of the film. You can still enter the contest too, of course.

I'll keep the giveaway open until the end of the day on Thursday, July 7 and announce the winner on Friday, July 8!

*US residents only, please
*Contest ends 11:59 p.m. July 7, 2011

Notes from the litter box: Eddie speaks

Finally, someone in this office left the blog up on the computer and now it’s my turn! I thought I’d take a spin on here and see what the fuss is all about.

I am Eddie. I’m perpetually 29 years old (in cat years, thank you very much) and I love a good nap in the sun. I only take breaks from my napping to stare at people incessantly, cry at passersby when they are somehow oblivious to the emptiness of my food bowl, eat once they’ve filled it and lounge on desks. My time is precious so I can’t be bothered for many other duties – or so everyone thinks!

I’ve been living, working and startling employees at Peachtree for over 10 years now. I’m a legend! If it weren’t for me, this place would be very different. You see, at the end of the day when all the Peaches go home, they don’t know that I snuggle up to the editor’s desk to see what they’ve been up to. Every now and then, if I’m feeling generous, I might make notes on a manuscript or two, put my paw stamp on sketches, file invoices, etc. I’ve even written a few press releases!

My generosity aside, it is my intent to share some behind-the-scenes peeks of what is happening at Peachtree Publishers. Check back soon to see what scoop this kitty has to share. I’ve got my eye on a few new books that finally feature some of my fellow felines, but more on that later. I’m signing off for now -- it's time for my mid-afternoon snack!

PS - I uploaded my meow-harmony photo to the 'About' page. I wonder how long it'll take the humans to figure out I did that. In the mean time, go check it out - I'm gorgeous.

It’s beginning to look a lot like--wait…what?

The Peachtree Publishers Fall 2011 preview!

It’s June, so you know what that means: Fall!

Okay, maybe not quite yet, but in Book Land we’re always working a season ahead of schedule. This can get confusing. Case in point: Yesterday I turned on the radio and wondered why nobody was playing Christmas music. Thankfully, I recovered from my time-continuum mishap pretty quickly and laughed off my befuddledness before any permanent damage was done (In Book Land we also make up lots of words).

I’m delighted to give you all a little sneak peak at our Fall 2011 frontlist titles! We’ve got some really exciting things planned. Above is a photo of our picture books, fresh from the printer and delivered to the floor of my office. This is just the beginning--tune in next week for our chapter book preview (hint: some of these are already on NetGalley)!

In the spirit of seasonal confusion, leave a comment here or send a message on Twitter to @PeachtreePub and tell me what you’re most looking forward to this fall/winter for your chance to win a set of these picture books! I'll pick a winner at random on Friday, June 10! Fa la la la laaa--Oh, darn it.
